![]() But a couple of years ago, DiMeo (pictured below) returned from a rather expensive golf outing and was troubled. "For a scratch golfer, I was kind of bothered that I'd spent so much money on green fees but didn't have any local knowledge about the course," he said. "I didn't understand why these courses charging up to $300 wouldn't even offer caddies." That's when the idea of Caddie Connection was formed. Launched in January, Caddie Connection brokers caddies to high-end courses from San Diego to Las Vegas. Golfers and courses can contact the company and request a caddie, even for the following day. Depending on the course, the charge is anywhere from $30 to $50 per player, plus tip. "There are a lot of players who don't mind paying that extra fee for a worry-free round of golf," DiMeo said. The caddies are trained in rules and etiquette, are never sent to a course they're unfamiliar with and do "everything but swing your club," DiMeo said. "They'll clean your clubs, rake your bunkers, help you find your golf balls, offer course knowledge. It's the most enjoyable round of golf you can play." In June, Caddie Connection signed an exclusive agreement with Torrey Pines. Every morning, a handful of caddies show up at the course and are on-hand if players wish to use them. There are about 150 caddies on Caddie Connection's roster. They range in age from 18 to 53 and include everyone from recent high school graduates to semi-retired professionals. Not all of them are great golfers, DiMeo said, but each and every one is knowledgeable, trained and knows the mantra of Caddie Connection: "Keep up and shut up." Along with working with top public courses like Trump National, Torrey Pines, La Costa Resort and Spa, Maderas Country Club and many others, Caddie Connection also brokers caddies for charity events and corporate outings. Caddie Connection supplied the caddies for the World Series of Golf held at Primm Valley, as well as an inaugural tournament for cystic fibrosis that raised more than $140,000 in its first year.
