At Golf Graphics, Eric Brenn And Partners Hope To Make A Big Splash With Unique Decals For Clubs. Explain your business in 100 words or less. Golf Graphics makes artwork that adheres to the top of drivers, woods and hybrids. The polymer decal clings to the club, protects it, and when you want to change the artwork, it can be removed without any damage to the club. The finished product looks like it has been airbrushed or embedded into the club. People can choose their own artwork or select from the hundreds of choices we have available. When did you start your business? It was about a year ago when we started selling the product, but the invention process began about three years ago when my partners — Bill Clark and Bruce Barber — and I realized that no one has ever put advertising or artwork onto the head of a golf club. How many employees do you have? Five, including Lorie Locaynia, one of the most gifted graphic artists in the industry. Why did you choose the golf business? Golf is what I do for fun, and it’s nice making a living doing something I enjoy so much. What’s the one thing you didn’t expect to happen that did once you opened the doors? We didn’t expect so many women to love the product. We figured only guys would like it. Boy, were we wrong. What makes your product unique? Since golf is mainly a mind sport, you are what you think. The golf decals help create wonderful experiences for people on the golf course. For some, the decals provide focus and encouragement. For marketing and sales, it’s a great mini-billboard for logo advertising or your sayings without being rude, because it is a conversation starter. What sets your business apart from the competition? The research and physics we’ve done. The high-tech polymer we use and the process wasn’t easy. The decal will stick to your club incredibly well and is very durable. Being the first to come out with this technology is exciting. What do you like most about your job? You never know where this thing will go and how it will influence and change the entire industry. Before, you could only buy one color club, then they made a few other colors. Clubs were basically naked. Now, with this new technology, you can make a very cool clubhead — as if it were airbrushed or painted. What are some of the pitfalls of being in business for yourself? Marketing and advertising. We didn’t realize how much it takes to bring a product to market. It takes more resources to tell people about the product and how great it is than to create it. What advice do you have for someone wanting to go into business? Get lots of experience in marketing and sales first, then invent something to go with it. What’s your home course? Tustin Ranch Golf Club. If you could have one PGA Tour pro represent your company, who would it be and why? Of course everyone would say Tiger Woods, and it would be a dream for the company. But for reality buffs, it would be John Daly. I feel he would really understand the product and would be a good model for a fun attitude on the course.
