Joe Pesci is a fixture at many celebrity events — including the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic — and a true fan of the sport. He is friends with several professionals, including John Daly and San Diego’s Pat Perez. Pesci not only plays in high-profile celebrity events, but also donates his time to other charity events that don’t receive as much publicity. What is the one course you haven’t played that you want to? Augusta National. What did you think you would be growing up? Just what I am, an actor. I did it since I was 5 years old. I didn’t know anything else. What are you most proud of? I am proud of my family and my friends. Where are you a member? Lakeside Country Club and Valencia Country Club. What is your best round? I don’t remember the score, but it was probably at the Plantation Course in Hawaii. It was in the low 70s. What’s your best moment on a golf course? I have it on tape. I outdrove Davis Love III by 25 yards. I hit the ball 325 yards. He hit further back that day, but for me to hit a big drive like that, it was fun. Strangest thing you’ve ever seen on a golf course? It was at the Bob Hope and I was playing with Arnold Palmer. I hit a ball in the trees and I got on Arnold’s shoulders to get it. There were no cameras around. I wish there was a camera. It was his idea. He was giggling about it. What do you want to do in golf that you haven’t done? Be more consistent so I can have more fun playing. I don’t expect to be a great player ever, but I hit a lot of good shots so I know I have the ability to do it. So I just want to be more consistent. SG |
