![]() ![]() TaylorMade commemorated its PGA Tour launch of the R1 driver on Feb. 13 by delivering the clubs to its staff pros at the Northern Trust Open via a specialty parachuting jump team designed to honor combat-injured members of the military. The event was part of the tournament’s Military Day activities, which included a team of three solo jumpers and one tandem jumper who landed on the Heroes Golf Course at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. Decked out in R1-branded parachutes and jump suits, along with orange smoke and faces painted with the same stripes as seen on the crown of the driver, the jumpers hand-delivered R1 drivers to Dustin Johnson, Pat Perez, Sergio Garcia, Johnson Wagner and Rory Sabbatini, who were waiting on the ground. All of the players are entered in the Northern Trust Open at nearby Riviera Country Club. “Living in San Diego, we are keenly aware of the sacrifices our nation’s military makes and we have had a long-standing relationship with Operation Game On,” said Bob Maggiore, chief marketing officer for the TaylorMade, adidas Golf and Ashworth brands. “We wanted to honor these heroes as we launch the most advanced driver we have ever built.” The more than 20 TaylorMade staff pros entered in the Northern Trust Open will play with the name of an Operation Game On member on their hat.
