With The Caddie Connection, golfers can tour a course just like the pros.

By Southland Golf MagazinePublished: March, 2007

Bobby DiMeo has long had a passion for golf. He picked up the game at 15 and knew right away it was for him.
“I played baseball growing up and saw the similarities,” said DiMeo,  who these days carries a 1 handicap at Wilshire Country Club. “After my first time on the course I was hooked.”

Nine years later, DiMeo is still immersed in the game.
In April of last year, along with business partner Lindsay Soderberg, he started The Caddie Connection, a San Diego-based company that provides caddies for golf courses throughout Southern California and Las Vegas.

How did you get involved in the golf business?

I caddied on the Hooters Tour for Kevin Hayes, who was my golf coach. Seeing how tough it was to make it on tour, I decided to change my career path and attend the San Diego Golf Academy. After graduating from the San Diego Golf Academy, I worked at The Hodges Golf Learning Center in San Diego. As a golf shop assistant I watched very closely how the facility was run. Having caddied before, I noticed a need for caddies at middle- and high-end golf courses.

What’s the best thing about being in the golf business?

It really is a genuine sport. You meet great people in the industry. There is not an individual sport like golf with such honest people.

What makes your service unique?

Our caddies can’t be replaced by a yardage guide. They are professionally trained by current PGA Tour caddies.

What’s the key to your success?

The ability to offer caddies via the Internet while fulfilling the request with as little as 24 hours notice.

What are some of the pitfalls of being in business for yourself?

Long hours and working weekends.

What are some of the advantages?

Having the ability to work a deal without having to ask for permission.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in business?

Getting golfers who have never played golf with a caddie to play with one. A caddie will improve your score dramatically as well as enhance your experience on the course.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to go into business?

Find a way to fill the needs of your customers. If you fill their needs first, success will come. With success comes profits.

What’s your personal motto on the golf course?

Ninety-five percent of golfers who get angry on a golf course are not good enough to get angry.  SG
