![]() Earl Woods, who died May 3, was the guiding force and inspiration behind the Tiger Woods Foundation. “He has a worldwide identification by name of one word,” Earl said about his son six years ago. “It takes a lifetime to achieve that and here he is at 24, and he’s already had that for years.” By the time Tiger was a junior at Stanford, the plan was solidified, and when he turned professional in 1996, Earl set up the foundation. By the end of the year, Earl secured nonprofit charitable organization status, and Tiger kicked it off with a $500,000 donation. The foundation has since grown into a multimillion-dollar organization that has helped thousands of children. Earl’s involvement was important, and the foundation has set up a scholarship in his honor. When Earl Woods died, the foundation said in a statement: “Earl was an advocate for young people through his work with the foundation who believed in the power of positive thinking. He dared to dream and encouraged all young people to do the same. As co-founder of the Tiger Woods Foundation, Earl ensured that future generations will have an opportunity to dream big dreams and see those dreams come true. He will be greatly missed.” |
