Kevin James

Former 'King of Queens' star is a member at Tarzana's El Caballero Country Club.

Claim to fame: A stand-up comic who struck it big with his TV series, “The King of Queens,” James has transitioned well into film, starring in such quirky hits as “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”
Golf expertise: With a handicap around 17, James doesn’t make a lot of birdies, but few celebrities are as ubiquitous on the pro-am scene. When he’s not on that circuit, he can likely be found on his home course — El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana.
What he means to the game: James, who was a high school tailback and wrestler who majored in sports management before launching his stand-up career, brings his blue-collar persona to the golf course. During the filming of the 2005 documentary “Making the Cut,” which he co-produced and co-starred in with golf buddy Ray Romano, James was affable while Romano seemed tightly wound. For the past few years, he and Romano have co-hosted a celebrity golf tournament at El Caballero that raises money for various charities.
Quotable: “When you hook a ball into the other fairway, you get to apologize to guys like Freddie Couples.”
— James, on what it’s like playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
