Claim to fame: Emmy Award-winning actor and star of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which aired from 1996-2005.
Golf expertise: A member at Lakeside Golf Club, Romano is a constant presence at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He played a sportswriter on his sitcom and worked golf into many episodes. In the trailer for his new series on TNT, “Men of a Certain Age,” he’s shown talking about the possibility of making the Champions Tour. As a 12 handicap, he’ll need some help, which he’ll be receiving soon as the new pupil of star instructor Hank Haney as part of Golf Channel’s new season of “The Haney Project.”
What he means to the game: Few players in the AT&T play to the camera or the galleries as much as Romano. He’s the latest in a long line of comics that serve as ambassadors of the game by merely enjoying it a great deal.
Quotable: “[My wife] likes the idea that after 21 years it’s someone else’s job to try and fix me.”
— Romano, discussing his upcoming stint on “The Haney Project.”
