Golf expertise: With a 20 handicap, Ferrell isn’t the celebrity world’s most accomplished golfer, and he only plays a few rounds a year. But at 6-foot-3, he can hit the ball a long way when he connects. What he means to the game: Once a year, Ferrell donates time and energy to emcee the Cancer for College Golf Classic, which raises money for scholarships for college students who have survived cancer. It was started by Craig Pollard, a fraternity brother of Ferrell’s from USC who is a two-time cancer survivor and double amputee. At this year’s event, more than $200,000 was raised. Quotable: “I feel it’s a distinguished game and people are losing sight of that. A lot of the stupid hats and bright colored outfits that people wear really turn me off. I think it’s turning the game into a mockery.” — Ferrell, during one of the nine online segments he filmed for golf.com to promote the Cancer for College Golf Classic. He was wearing a plaid hat, green shorts and a loud blue shirt.
