Eric Dickerson

The former NFL superstar now spends much of his free time on the links.

By JOHN REGERPublished: December, 2007

Eric Dickerson, who played for the Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts, rushed for 13,259 yards in his 11-year NFL career. His yardage total is second on the all-time list, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He now enjoys playing golf, particularly at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, where he carries a 7 handicap.

How did you get into golf?
I started playing because when I retired, all my friends were playing. I got a little more serious after playing with Charles Barkley. He could beat me at that time and he said I could never beat him, but that's not true now.

What is your best round?
A 73 at Cascades, and it's not even there anymore.

What are your favorite Southern California courses?
I like all the courses in Southern California. I like my course, Wood Ranch. I'm a member there. I also like Riviera a lot.

What's the strangest thing you've seen on a golf course?
That's easy. One time I was at Balboa and a squirrel was going across the fairway and I started chasing it. Then it turned around and started chasing me. It didn't catch me.

Including yourself, who would be in your ultimate foursome?
Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and my best friend, Charles Drayton.

What do you enjoy most about the game?
The competitive part of it.

What is your most embarrassing moment on the golf course?
When I went to North Carolina to play in the Jimmy V charity event and had just started playing. I had no idea there was about 20,000 people there. I got on the tee and whiffed the ball.

What's your favorite club in the bag?
It used to be my driver, but I would say now it's my 9 iron. I can pull it out any time and know that I am going to hit it.
