![]() Newport Beach's Danielle Amiee won "Big Break III" in 2004. • Danielle Amiee, a Newport Beach mini-tour player, won “Big Break III” in 2004. Amiee rallied from a 2-down deficit after three holes to beat Pamela Crikelair and receive two sponsor’s exemptions on the LPGA Tour. In her first event — the Michelob Ultra Open — she missed the cut after shooting 79-77. Her second event was to have been the Corning Classic, but she withdrew because of a back injury. • Paul Holtby of Simi Valley, who won the title on “Big Break IV” in 2005. Holtby defeated Guy Woodman of Old Windsor, England, in the match-play final, 1 up. He received an exemption into the European Tour’s Algarve Open, where he missed the cut by one stroke. Along with being a PGA teaching professional, Holtby is the inventor of the Center Spot, a training device to improve putting skills. Other regional highlights include: • Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles was the venue for “Big Break 6” in 2009. • Joshua Warthen, who played golf at San Diego State, finished second on “Big Break: Mesquite” in 2007. • The current edition of “Big Break” includes Blake Moore of Monrovia and Kevin Erdman of Altadena. As of this writing, Erdman had advanced to the eighth episode, while Moore was eliminated in the seventh episode. PGA Tour star Pat Perez, a former San Diego resident, appeared on the show in support of his younger brother Mike, who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz. |
