All but one 2008 Junior World champion hailed from either the Southland or outside the United States. Here’s a rundown of the results from San Diego last month:

Boys 15-17: On the South Course at Torrey Pines, Vancouver’s Eugene Wong shot a torrid 4-under 68 in the final round to win. Andrew Hoops of Highland and Stewart Hagestad of Newport Beach each tied for fifth at 8-over par.

Girls 13-14: Dottie Ardina of the Philippines won a sudden-death playoff on the Oak Glen Course at Sycuan Resort. Marissa Borja, from Spring Valley, compiled a 4-over-par total to finish tied for ninth.

Boys 13-14: Raleigh, N.C. youngster Grayson Murray, who won the 11-12 division two years ago, tallied three sub-par rounds at Riverwalk Golf Course for another Junior World triumph. Rancho Santa Margarita’s Beau Hossler shot a field-best 6-under 66 in the third round to end solo fifth.

Girls 11-12: Thailand’s Pinrath Loomboonruang won at Lake San Marcos Country Club. Gabriella Then of Chino Hills finished fourth.

Boys 11-12: Rancho Cucamonga’s Rico Hoey, who won the 9-10 division in 2006, came from behind to win with a 67 at Lake San Marcos.

Girls 9-10: Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley won by three strokes at the Lomas Santa Fe Executive Course.

Boys 9-10: Chino Hills’ Sahith Theegala became a three-time winner, besting Fullerton’s Ryan Rhee by one shot at Welk Resort.

Girls 7-8: Canada’s Sumie Francois won, and San Diego’s Waverly Whiston finished seventh.

Boys 7-8: San Diego’s Ahmed Ali didn’t shoot over par on his way to a comfortable three-stroke victory.

6-and-under: Japan’s Yuki Takeuchi won the boys group, while Natasha Andrea Oon of the Philippines won the girls division.
