 Brad Larsen The Oceanside resident (top left) won last month’s SCGA Senior Amateur Championship at Santa Ana Country Club in Orange County. The Shadowridge Country Club member, who turned 56 four days after the event, shot 73-73 for a three-shot victory over three players, including defending champion Howie Knodt and two-time U.S. Senior Amateur winner Kemp Richardson. This marked the first time Larsen won a major local event since he captured the 1995 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship at De Anza Country Club in Borrego Springs. Anthony Paolucci The Del Mar resident and senior at La Jolla Country Day School (top right) won the American Junior Golf Association’s Thunderbird International Junior at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., by three shots. That tournament, held over Memorial Day weekend, is arguably the most prestigious on the AJGA schedule, and Paolucci was victorious in wire-to-wire fashion with rounds of 66-69-69. Then, on June 7, he shot 68-71 during U.S. Open sectional qualifying in Columbus, Ohio, and finished just two strokes out of a playoff for a spot in the major field.
