Danielle KangImpressive freshmen golfers join Southland collegiate squads every fall — but it’s rare for them to join a team in the spring. That was the case with Kang, a Thousand Oaks resident who graduated early from Westlake High so she could enroll at Pepperdine in January. She wasted little time making an impact, winning her second event, the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch Golf Course. With an 8-under total, Kang beat perennial All-Americans such as Lizette Salas (USC), Stephanie Kono (UCLA) and Carlota Ciganda (ASU). (PHOTO: Jeff Golden.) Niall PlattOne of the top junior golfers to hail from Santa Barbara in recent memory, Platt signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the golf team at Notre Dame this fall. Last month, the Laguna Blanca School senior won the prestigious Future Collegians World Tour’s Hunter Ranch Open in Paso Robles by three strokes. His 5-under effort for 36 holes was boosted by a 4-under 68 in the second round, the only sub-70 score among the talented field. Platt also has excelled in AJGA tournaments and the SCPGA’s Toyota Tour Cup. (COURTESY: Future Collegians World Tour.)
