![]() Glen Campbell (Photo: Stephen Duff/Allsport/Getty Images). Campbell was a natural choice because of his love for golf and his ties to the city and entertainment industry. He also attracted a diversified musical audience because of his affiliation with The Monkees and Frank Sinatra, among others, in addition to his budding solo career that included hits such as “By The Time I Get To Phoenix.” During his solo transition, he also led a successful TV variety show called “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,” which ran from 1969 to 1972. The Glen Campbell Los Angeles Open ran from 1971 to 1983 — a timeline that coincided with Campbell’s most successful song — “Rhinestone Cowboy” — in 1975. His name, contacts and personality attracted more attention to the event in the days before corporate sponsors became commonplace on the PGA Tour. OTHER HALL OF FAME PROFILES: WILLIAM P.
