Newport Beach’s Danielle Aimee was living on the edge during every episode of “The Big Break III: Ladies Only,” which aired from early February to late April on The Golf Channel. Aimee, a 29-year-old Futures Tour player, faced elimination in all nine episodes prior to her 2-and-1 match-play victory over Pamela Crikelair of New York that earned Aimee two LPGA exemptions. “This is everything I have ever wanted,” said Aimee, who shot 79-77 in her LPGA Tour debut May 5 at the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill to miss the cut by 10 shots. “And now that I’ve reached my goal, I’m going to let it take its own course and I can now move on to the next stage of my life.” Aimee’s newfound fame has had some rough moments. Like many “reality” shows, the programs were condensed into one-hour episodes, meaning viewers saw a side of the participants the producers wanted them to see. “This was a made-for-TV event so you cannot believe everything you heard on the show,” Aimee said. “A lot of the comments were taken out of context. Now, hopefully people will see me for my game.” Aimee, who planned to use her second exemption at the LPGA Corning Classic in late May after this issue went to press, said all of the post-show excitement and activity has made it difficult to concentrate on practice. “Since the final episode aired (April 26), it has been hectic,” she said. Whether the future holds more Futures Tour events or more chances to walk the fairways at LPGA tournaments, Aimee is proud of her success on the show and everything it took to get there. “I feel so blessed to have had the support to accomplish this dream,” she said. |
