![]() Two teams finished a combined 17-under. The first, helmed by celebrity Carlos Mencia, included Dan Davidson, Chuck Yeager, Jeff Bracken and Diane Davis. A team led by celebrity Frank Sontag with Steve Pitcher, Michael Glennon, Chick Valley and Tom Brinker also finished at 17-under. “I’m into growing golf and I would do that anywhere, but it’s extra special to be able to promote the game when you’re involved with a property that is growing like this,” said Industry Hills director of golf David Youpa, who was named the PGA Professional of the Year in 2004 by the Metropolitan Chapter of the Southern California Professional Golf Association. Youpa has worked at Industry Hills for 14 years, managing the day-to-day operation of both courses, the Dwight D. Eisenhower and Babe Didrikson Zaharias. For the past two years, Youpa has watched Majestic Realty Co., the Los Angeles-based commercial real estate firm that manages Pacific Palms Resort, transform the former Sheraton Industry Hills into a high-tech conference center featuring luxury accommodations and recreational activities including golf, tennis, an aquatic center and equestrian center. The resort, which includes 45,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, was named the 2005 Conference Center of the year by “Meetings West” magazine. With the resort’s interior now refurbished, officials will spend this year’s renovation money on the golf course. Plans call for a new pro shop and restaurant, a new fleet of carts, resurfacing the cart paths and filling the bunkers with white sand. As a promotion to celebrate the facility’s 25th anniversary, green fees on both courses are $25 on the 25th of each month. |
