Both Anaheim Hills and Dad Milelr golf courses offer summer junior camps for golfers 8-13 years old and an advanced camp for experience junior and high school golfers. Each camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and covers full swing, short game, golf etiquette, rules and course management. The camps also offer fun, challenging games, prizes and snacks, and range in price from $225 to $350.

The Arroyo Trabuco Golf Academy offers a specifically designed program for children 3-7 years of age to introduce them to the game in a safe and fun manner. The Tiny Tees Golf program not only works on golf skills, but focuses on overall coordination. Children learn golf skills, hand-eye coordination, teamwork, etiquette, and much more. Tiny Tees offers six levels of instruction based on skill, maturity and experience.

Ashwood Golf Course offers five-week junior clinics for players ages 6-17. The weekly golf programs for children are structured to promote the development of the fundamentals for the full swing, chipping, pitching, and putting techniques. This program is designed for the intermediate and advanced junior golfers looking to advance their games and compete in high school and college golf. The junior player development program will meet every Saturday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be an assessment test that determines a golfer’s ability. Golfers will have fun learning the rules and etiquette, short game, course management, specialty shots, and more! The cost will be $199 for 4 weeks and will include close range and on course instruction and 9 holes of group play every week.

Steve W. Soule, PGA director of instruction, heads the Black Gold Junior Golf Academy and teaches juniors the game of golf in a fun, safe environment. All aspects of the game are covered as each student starts at the beginner level and progresses through the advanced level. Instruction for beginners is held on Wednesdays, intermediate players on Thursdays and advanced players on Fridays. The fee of $100 per student includes four hours of golf instruction, with each session lasting 60 minutes.

Brandon Johnson is the instructor at Eagle Crest Golf Club. Originally from Texas, he developed his skills at the prestigious Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Tex. Brandon is passionate about developing golfers of all levels, and excels in the development of juniors. He believes that each and every player has their own swing, meaning that one swing does not fit all. Empire Lakes’ summer junior golf program begins in June and runs through September. The cost of the program is $525 and entitles junior golfers to unlimited range balls from 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. and unlimited golf on a space-available basis from Monday through Thursday. Juniors in the program represent Empire Lakes in the Inland Empire Junior Golf Travel League and will receive a team hat and shirt.

Future Champions Golf Academy

The Future Champions Golf Academy is one of California’s most positive, productive, and complete junior golf programs. The Golf Academy at Pacific Palms offers both introductory junior camps for beginner/novice level players and more comprehensive programs for those at intermediate/advanced levels. LA City Parks

The City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks sponsors a citywide Junior Golf Program. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for children ages 7 through 18 to develop their golf skills, competition skills, and relationships with their peers. There are many programs and rates offered at different courses, and all are very economical. Starting times are set aside for play once a week in the early afternoon. Royal Vista Golf Club is offering several two-week junior camps. Junior golfers will enjoy instruction from PGA professionals on putting, chipping, pitching and full-swing techniques. Tiny Tees offers six levels based on skill and experience. Tiny Tees was started in 2000 in Hawaii and is expanding to more golf courses. It’s a very popular program and classes tend to fill fast. The golf staff has formed a complete junior program that has a foundation of quality instruction but also teaches sportsmanship, etiquette, and prepares each student for a lifetime of golf. The program separates juniors into three separate levels of achievement. One-hour group lessons are given every Sunday afternoon. During the group lessons, junior golfers of similar ages and abilities will work in small groups with experienced, supportive instructors. There are also Junior Play Days once a month, where each junior golfer has the opportunity to play under the watchful eye of an instructor. Each session is $12, and there is a program fee of $10 that includes a personalized bag tag and program member privileges.

San Clemente has a strong commitment to junior golf and new player development is one of its core missions. The course proudly hosts the annual Triton Invitational, one of the largest girls high school events in Southern California. In addition to 2008 CIF team finalist San Clemente HS girls varsity golf, no less than five area high schools regularly practice and compete at the course. In cooperation with the City of San Clemente Parks & Recreation, the course hosts regular after school outings from each of the three San Clemente middle schools. San Juan's Junior Golf programs are very popular, especially during the summer season. Under the leadership of PGA Golf Professional Larry Brotherton and Mitzie Sundberg they offer two alternatives from which to choose. The SCPGA Junior Tour offers competitive opportunities for juniors ages 7-18. There are three levels of competition to accommodate every skill level (Junior Development League for newcomers to tournament play; Junior Tour for the experienced player; and the Toyota Tour Cup for the highest level of competition). Soboba Springs offers a junior membership program that includes free afternoon golf and discounted use of the driving range for $50 annually, with a $10 per month membership fee. Junior lessons from PGA professionals are currently offered at a 50-percent discount. Soboba Springs also is home to “Grandfathers For Golf,” a non-profit organization run by community grandfathers who teach underprivileged middle school children in the San Jacinto Valley.

For $100 per month, junior golfers between the ages of 7 and 17 can join the Junior Golf Academy at Woods Valley and attend up to 12 one-hour clinics per month held by PGA member David Mowery. The clinics are held Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Juniors enrolled in the academy can attend the Saturday clinic from 1-2 p.m. as well.
