Golf central

Scottsdale's Xona Resort Suites is a convenient, all-purpose lodging base for visiting golfers.

One of four relaxing swimming pools available to guests at Xona Resort Suites, a popular destination among Scottsdale tourists seeking a golf getaway.

All golf trips need a home base, a party central, a place to unwind and refuel.

The Xona Resort Suites in Scottsdale fits that bill. Consider the quaint facility in the northern part of the city your starter’s shack and 19th hole when planning a visit to one of the top golf destination areas in the United States.

“This place is all about golf,” said Tedd Maitland, director of golf and marketing at the hotel. “We’ve changed our name and added some amenities, but we still feel that we’re the golf resort for Scottsdale. That’s what we specialize in.”

The property formerly known as Resort Suites has four swimming pools, ample business and meeting facilities, two dining options and enough rooms — with one to four bedrooms (pictured) — to satisfy every traveler’s need. The hotel is the biggest tee time provider for players visiting the area, and an on-site golf concierge can handle all the booking and packaging requirements needed to play at any of the region’s top public and private courses.

“We feel like we’re the real basic golfer’s hotel,” said Maitland, adding that golfers can save up to 40 percent on rounds booked through Xona Resort Suites. “And the location is ideal for a lot of top-notch courses in this area of Scottsdale.”

Indeed, the hotel is right next to TPC Scottsdale, home of the Waste Management Phoenix Open — the rowdiest stop on the PGA Tour each year — and Xona guests can book spa treatments at the Fairmont associated with the course. Another PGA Tour-caliber course that has partnered with Xona is Grayhawk, which also is in that region of the metropolitan area.

Rooms at Xona Resort Suites range from 300 to 1,800 square feet, with the four-bedroom suites the best example of how fitting the facility is for a golf buddy trip. All of those options have a dining room, living room, full kitchen and washer and dryer, and each bedroom has a locked entrance and bathroom facilities.

“If guys are going on a golf trip, they’re focused on the golf,” Maitland said. “We understand that. We take care of the details, provide a comfortable setting with camaraderie and then let them get out and do what they came here for.”

Readers Feedback:

Me and my buddies go to Scottsdale once a year or so to play golf and, um, have fun. Xona sounds like a good place for us. We're mostly out and about. I didn't know it focused on golf like that. Good to know. Thanks.
