![]() Lake Tahoe features plenty of picturesque golf courses, but no venue can match the reputation of the premier property in the area — Edgewood Tahoe. The course combines great natural beauty — it’s set on the south side of Lake Tahoe — with equally stellar architecture. The George Fazio design, which has hosted marquee USGA events in the past, stretches 7,555 yards from the back tees but has shorter options for the more faint of heart. For the past 20 years, Edgewood Tahoe has hosted the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, the largest event on the Celebrity Players Tour. In addition to having an elite list of champions — including Mario Lemieux, Jack Wagner and eight-time winner Rick Rhoden — the event is quite a party. “Even in these economic times, we had our biggest attendance last year — over 37,000,” director of golf Randy Fox said. “Most players are out there to have fun. They have a great time and so does the crowd.” Tickets for the event — to be held July 13-18 — are $15 Tuesday through Thursday and $25 Friday through Sunday. The course sits more than 6,000 feet above sea level in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The higher elevation means players get more distance off the tee — Fox estimates 10 percent — which is great, but the location also means the course is only open from early May through early October. Weekday green fees through July 12 are $200 (Monday-Thursday) and $220 on weekends. Twilight rates for that time are $150 and $170. The course will be closed to the public July 13-18 for the tournament. From July 19-August 22, green fees are $220 and $240, from August 23-September 26 they are $200 and $220, and from September 27-October 9 they drop to $150 and $170.
