![]() The economy is on shaky ground, which makes the opening of the Terranea Resort on one of the Southland’s most scenic pieces of land such a remarkable event. The 582-room resort is built on 101 acres on the Palos Verdes Peninsula that was home to the Marineland theme park until 1987. It features eight dining options, a 50,000-square-foot spa and a nine-hole, par-3 golf course — The Links at Terranea. The $480 million Mediterranean-themed resort developed by Lowe Enterprises, which recently was served with a notice of default on two loans by its primary lenders, is just up the road from Trump National Golf Club. The property offers spectacular views of the ocean and Santa Catalina Island. And while original plans called for an 18-hole golf course, the nine-hole layout designed by Todd Eckenrode is a great addition. “We started out trying to create something that was unique and not your typical nine-hole course,” Eckenrode said. From the back tees, Eckenrode added, the nine holes “are literally championship-style par 3s. They are as good as any par 3s you’d find on any golf course.” The front tees are ideal for beginners and juniors. “We wanted to create something that would cater to a really wide audience, from kids to expert players,” Eckenrode said. The resort also includes three swimming pools — a 5,000-square-foot family pool, an adults-only pool and another on the ocean bluff — walking and hiking trails, 60,000 square feet of indoor meeting and events space, 75,000 square feet of outdoor event space and a children’s center. So it’s ideal for romantic getaways, family vacations and corporate events. For more information, call (310) 265-2800 or visit terranea.com. |
