![]() Part of the appeal of golf in Las Vegas is experiencing courses with themes you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. Bear’s Best Las Vegas and The Revere Golf Club are no exception. While one property features hand-picked gems from some of Jack Nicklaus’ most famous designs, the other evokes one of the most hallowed stories of America’s path to independence — with a links touch, of course. Bear’s Best Las Vegas With more than 300 courses around the world, Jack Nicklaus Design is one of the most accomplished golf architecture firms in the game. Instead of thinking about the time and cost it would take to check out even a small sample of his most memorable tracks, consider making the short trip to Bear’s Best Las Vegas instead. Nestled beautifully at the base of the Spring Mountains about 15 minutes west of The Strip, Bear’s Best has 18 replica holes from some of the most famous Nicklaus layouts in North America. “Las Vegas is perfect for this concept,” said general manager Jim Stanfill. “It’s a city full of surprises at every corner.” Among the venues represented are the Resort course and the Golden Bear’s private course from PGA West in La Quinta, the Chiricahua and Geronimo layouts at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Old Works Golf Club in Anaconda, Mont. (the two holes from Old Works even have the layout’s unforgettable black sand in the bunkers). “The layout keeps you guessing on every hole,” said Stanfill. “You don’t have time to get bored.” The well-manicured course prides itself on giving patrons “more than just a round of golf.” The GPS systems on the carts feature a video introduction from Nicklaus himself on each hole, the all-grass practice area is a great place to warm up, and the service is impeccable; Bear’s Best was recently named “The Best of Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Before booking a round, be sure to check out the Bear’s Best website, where there are always monthly specials. There are also spacious banquet facilities ideal for hosting events after any group outing. Located in Henderson about 15 minutes south of The Strip, Revere offers 36 Billy Casper/Greg Nash-designed holes that test your game and give you an experience that mirrors the famous midnight ride of Paul Revere. Each hole of the par-72, 7,143-yard Lexington track is named after a Revere-related trait. For example, the par-4 15th is named “TBAC” (an abbreviation for “The British are coming”). In this case, the hole shares that abbreviation because its plethora of sand traps makes one think, “The bunkers are coming.” While Lexington is a bit longer and has more risk-reward tests, the newer 18-hole track — Concord — offers players a bit more generosity off the tee. The spacious, full-service clubhouse has a beautiful pro shop, and the fare at Buckman’s Grille is some of the best at any Las Vega-area golf property. Plus, the structure’s floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the entire Las Vegas valley. Whether you’re playing with some buddies or as part of a group outing, the service at this Troon Golf-managed establishment will leave you with lasting memories and wanting to return for more.
