![]() An abundance of color is par for the course at Aviara. When it comes to golf resorts, Southern California golfers are absolutely spoiled. From the sprawling estates in the Coachella Valley, inland treasures like the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, and high-end luxury resorts on the Pacific Coast such as the Resort at Pelican Hill, there is a spell-blinding array of world-class places to stay and play. Add Aviara to that illustrious list. Known as the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, this Carlsbad property rated as a five-diamond resort by AAA, blends a spectacular course with a hotel and grounds that must be experienced to be believed. Located on 200 acres overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon, the resort includes 329 lavishly appointed rooms, including 44 suites, and also offers a 15,000-square-foot full-service spa, lighted tennis courts and beautifully maintained grounds. There are also two signature restaurants: the Argyle Steak House, which overlooks the golf course, and the Italian-infused Vivace. It’s a resort that is so lavish and well-constructed that it can easily adapt to any kind of visit, from couples looking for a romantic getaway, families seeking a centralized place for a San Diego vacation, and businesses, since it offers up to 78,000-square-feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space. The resort routinely pops up on lists of the best resort golf courses in America, and no visit is complete without experiencing Aviara Golf Club, the only San Diego course designed by Arnold Palmer. The course explodes with colorful flowers and flora and even gives you a couple of ocean view glimpses. It’s sculpted around rolling hillsides and is renowned for its immaculate conditioning. At 7,007-yards from the tips, along with generous fairways and huge greens, it’s not the most penal course to play in Southern California, but it’s definitely one of the most memorable. A two-story, 32,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial clubhouse anchors the property, and its game-improvement facilities include the nationally ranked Kip Puterbaugh’s Aviara Golf Academy as well as the TaylorMade Performance Lab, a fitting system open to the public. As one of only 30 Hyatt properties around the world to earn Park Hyatt status, reserved for the company’s most luxurious hotels and resorts, an attention to detail and service permeates the resort, from the first-class service in the restaurant to the employees in the pro shop. This year alone, the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort has received recognition for its two signature restaurants, its spa and the overall resort. Peak season at the resort runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when room rates begin around $395 a night, with the entry price dropping to around $350 during off-season. That’s for a standard room, a 540-square-foot Palm Court King, which overlooks the garden; suites, which range from an 850-square-foot Park Deluxe to the opulent Presidential Suite, begin around $1,000 a night. There are golf stay-and-play packages, where the rate depends on the day of the week and time of year. For more information, call (760) 488-1234 or visit parkaviara.hyatt.com. |
