![]() Southern Californians interested in vacationing close to home have a new option — The Resort at Pelican Hill. The resort, which opened last month, delivers a luxurious getaway on the scenic Newport Coast complete with personal butler, customized meals and in-room fragrances. For the curious at heart, there are guided tours that teach you how to press flowers and the fine points of composting. Guests can choose from one of 128 villas or 204 bungalow suites. Located adjacent to Pelican Hill Golf Club, the resort also features five-star dining at Italian restaurant Andrea, which has a temperature-controlled room just for its pasta. Next to the saltwater pool is the Coliseum Pool & Grille, which offers a lighter lunch, and the The Caffe, which serves light breakfasts, smoothies, homemade breads and gelato. A separate children’s area has a circular pool with an interactive fountain. A 22-room spa where therapists assess your needs and recommend a personalized treatment also is on the property. Favorites include mud and clay body treatments and herb, massage and heat therapies. The spa also is equipped with herbal steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools and soaking tubs, in addition to a salon, fitness center and boutique. While the spa is a fitting end to a perfect day, golf is the ideal beginning. Tom Fazio returned to Pelican Hill in 2005 and spent two years updating the two courses, which reopened last year. The courses offer some of the best panoramic ocean views you’ll find from most of the 36 holes, and the Pelican Grill, golf shop, 44,000-square-foot clubhouse and full-service practice facility also are on site to meet the needs of every golfer. For those yearning for more, guests are invited to join a nature hike or horticulture class, or learn tai chi while taking in ocean views. With all this to offer, guests might not be able to experience all of The Resort at Pelican Hill’s amenities in one visit. Good thing we live nearby.
