There’s nothing like stepping on a golf course and feeling like the terrain was sculpted just for you. Dos Lagos Golf Club in Corona is just like that.

The Matt Dye-designed course is playable, entertaining, creative and fun. Dye, who’s based in San Diego, told us his goal was to build a player-friendly course and price it accordingly.

Dos Lagos is not long from the back tees at 6,544 yards and the course is wide open in many spots. A creek runs through the property and the natural topography is brilliant.

The first hole is a short dogleg left designed to ease golfers into the round. The second begins to test your game with a 391-yard par 4 where you must hit your drive over a creek running through the middle of the fairway. If your ball finds a safe landing spot, then you shouldn't have too much trouble the rest of the way as there are several bail out areas around the green as long as you don't go long.

The 188-yard, par-3 third hole demands a forced carry over an intimidating creek. There is plenty of room to miss on the left and a favorable bounce should send the pulled shot toward the green.

The sixth hole is the toughest on the course. The 436-yard par-4 bends gently to the right where the fairway falls off toward a water hazard that borders the landing area. Your tee shot needs to favor the left side of the fairway. The green is slightly elevated, so an extra club will be necessary on your approach shot.

The back nine opens with a 401-yard par-4 and a tee shot over the creek, which continues down the right side of the hole.

The 11th hole is a 236-yard, par-3, with a huge contoured green. A large roll through the middle of the green makes chipping a challenge and rewards golfers with creative short games.

Holes 15 through 17 play on the hillside with a completely different feel from the rest of the course, offering great views and big elevation changes. The holes are more target oriented than any others on the course.

The round concludes with an excellent risk-reward par 5. At 533 yards, it may appear too long to get home in two, especially with a lake guarding the right side of the hole. But with the slope of the fairway, don’t discount your chances.

Dos Lagos is located off of Interstate 15 at 4507 Cabot Drive in Corona. Green fees are $44-$69. Call (951) 277-8787 or visit doslagosgolf.com.
