Reaching New Heights

Yucaipa Valley soars with master-planned community.

By Cynthia DiazPublished: May, 2005

The links: Yucaipa Valley Golf Club boasts one of the prettiest backdrops in Southern California, as the currently snow-capped San Bernardino Mountains hit golfers smack in the eye like, yes, a big pizza pie. Plus, the layout by the Rainville-Bye team challenges with tricky greens and stragically placed bunkers. All this for a public course, and resort ambience and affordable greens fees.

The homes: Next to the golf course is the master-planned community of Chapman Heights, where premier Southland builder William Lyon Homes kicks off three new neighborhoods, while Woodside Homes, Pacific Crest Communities and Yucaipa Properties are well into their phases. William Lyon’s floor plans measure about 2,448 to 2,797 square feet, offer up to six bedrooms and four baths, and are priced from the low $400,000s into the mid-$500,000s. Yucaipa Properties, Woodside and Pacific Crest are offering a variety of plans anywhere from 1,850 to 3,544 square feet and priced from the $300,000s into the mid-$500,000s.

The buzz: You’ll have a tough time finding this level of affordability for comparable new homes just about anywhere else in the Southland. Some of the cooler optional features are super family rooms and lofts.
