While there is seemingly no end of golf-related publications, a
national magazine geared solely for seniors hasn’t existed in some
time. The same goes for the Internet. While most of the name-brand web
sites have a lot of information about senior golf (such as cnnsi.com,
espn.com and pgatour.com), there really isn’t one comprehensive site
devoted strictly to golfers on the other side of 50. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a wealth of information on the web that seniors can take advantage of. If you’re a senior and have a keen sense of competition, you might want to investigate www.seniorgolfersamerica.com, a web site administered by an organization that conducts senior (50-and-over) tournaments across North America. Another organization that conducts senior tournaments is the National Senior Golf Association (www.nsgatour.com). But these are more than simple tournaments. They’re three-day trips to some of the better resorts in the country and also include supplemental activities, such as visiting historic sites, spa treatments and fine dining. A web site that serves as an on-line senior community is www.wiredseniors.com. This is a virtual community, complete with senior searches, discounted shopping and deals on vacation packages. But type golf into the home page search engine and hundreds of web sites are listed, all of which cater to seniors in some fashion. It will take a little bit of looking, but information ranging from trips to St. Andrews to new senior golf communities is just a few clicks away. — JOEL BEERS |
