Reigning California Amateur champion Josh Anderson of Murrieta and three-time Southern California Golf Association Amateur champion Scott McGihon are among 15 Southland golfers who have qualified for the 105th U.S. Amateur Championship August 20-26 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The 18-year-old Anderson, who won the 96th California Amateur in June, shot a pair of 66s at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills on August 2 to earn medalist honors with a 10-under-par 132.
McGihon, 39, a middle school teacher and high school golf coach in the Palm Springs area, won a playoff at Red Hill Country Club to earn the final spot at that course. McGihon won the SCGA Amateur in 2000, 2005 and 2006.
Each of the following six sites had three players who qualified for the nation’s biggest amateur event.
